92.5/100 in the Whisky Bible classifies this single malt from Northern Ireland as “brilliant”. The author Jim Murray says about the taste “rich delivery, delicately oiled and beautifully rounded. Slightly more two-toned than previously, with the old-fashioned barley-bourbon oak notes coming through in its traditional flaky manner.” He summaries with, “absolutely superb whiskey showing great balance and the usual Antrim 19th century pace with its flavour development”.
Scoring less than 78/100 on Whiskybase is more ‘average’ whiskey than ‘brilliant’. Comments include “I find it below the first two entry-levels, the Original and the Black Bush. A real disappointment.” And “I like the presentation and the bottle design, the 10 year old is a bit weak, but a delicious fruit cocktail.”
